Is Your Skin Yoga Perfect? Top Tips from inSpa Almaden

You’re committed to being healthy, reducing stress, and generally finding that chill inner place that allows you to listen to your husband talk about football for two hours without batting an eye. Your secret weapon: a regular yoga routine. You’re not alone – stars from Gwyneth Paltrow to Reese Witherspoon swear by the ancient practice. Yoga is hot, hot, hot in San Jose. Keeping your skin looking amazing during and after yoga is important. Here are some great tips from inSpa Almaden and our other locations!
Studies have shown that yoga does everything from help you lose weight to sleep better. But having great yoga style is a challenge: you have to show up without any makeup and you’re squeezed into the tightest pants fashionably imaginable. You at least want that yoga glow to show! When you’re going to be having “naked face time”, there are a few steps you can take to make sure that your skin looks its best.
Keep your hair out of your face: Wear your hair in a high ponytail or bun to keep it out of your face while doing downward-facing dog. Spritz a little hairspray on a toothbrush to smooth back flyaways and give yourself a sleek, gorgeous look. Throw in a pretty headband or head wrap for an extra strength ‘do.
Get a purifying facial: If you’re struggling with blackheads, whiteheads, or any other kind of blemish, a purifying facial can help you get back on the right track. Using products designed to help open up pores, a skin specialist will apply steam and products to really clear things out. A little strategic extraction for the really imbedded blemishes, and you’ll have the cleanest skin you’ve ever had. This helps fight future break-outs and can give you the confidence to hit the mat without makeup. Once you’ve cleaned out your pores, use products with natural ingredients such as aloe vera that work well with sensitive skin and are non-clogging.
Use antioxidants to soften skin: Sometimes we’re hesitant to go without makeup because we rely on products to protect our face from the elements, pollution, and other external factors. Applying antioxidants on a regular basis is a great way to get soft, radiant skin while ensuring your skin’s long term health. Using a cleanser and moisturizer that are infused with these products (like our partner Priori, for example) on a regular basis really helps. But the best way to get these antioxidants really into your skin is to make time for antioxidant facials. By the time you leave, you’ll look younger and have baby soft skin.
Fight fear of aging with a glycolic peel or dermabrasion resurfacing: Everybody’s had that moment where they’ve dreaded going to exercise class without a little something on their face, because it’s hard to figure out how best to hide fine lines. The best way to do this is to not let the signs of aging get you down in the first place! When you really need a boost, whether it’s getting rid of dull skin or reducing some fine lines around your eyes, consider an anti-aging facial. It’s amazing, and I promise once you try it you’ll be addicted to how great it makes you look and your skin feel. Glycolic peels use a chemical to remove the top layer of skin, while dermabrasian resurfacing uses a non-mechanical exfoliation.
Going to yoga without makeup doesn’t have to be awkward! Spend some time getting to know your skin. If you’re ready to treat your face to a little TLC but aren’t sure what treatment you need, set up a facial appointment at our Almaden or Santana Row spas.
